Regular Expressions with Nested Levels of Back Referencing Form a Hierarchy

چکیده

Regular expressions with back referencing have been used in a variety of software products in common use, such as Emacs and Perl, for many years. In these products, regular expressions have been extended with a naming construct. If a subexpression is named by some variable, whenever this subexpression matches some string, that string is assigned to the variable. Later occurrences of the same variable will then match the string assigned to it. This construction greatly increases the power of regular expressions and is useful in text searching as well as in text substitution in large documents. We study the nested usage of this operator, and prove that the power of the expressions increase with the number of nested levels that are allowed.

On Practical Regular Expressions

We report on simulation, hierarchy, and decidability results for Practical Regular Expressions (PRE), which may include back references in addition to the standard operations union, concatenation, and star. The following results are obtained: • PRE can be simulated by the classical model of nondeterministic finite automata with sensing one-way heads. The number of heads depends on the number of...

Containment of Nested Regular Expressions

Nested regular expressions (NREs) have been proposed as a powerful formalism for querying RDFS graphs, but research in a more general graph database context has been scarce, and static analysis results are currently lacking. In this paper we investigate the problem of containment of NREs, and show that it can be solved in PSPACE, i.e., the same complexity as the problem of containment of regula...

Reflection in the Chomsky Hierarchy

The class of regular languages can be generated from the regular expressions. These regular expressions, however, do not themselves form a regular language, as can be seen using the pumping lemma. On the other hand, the class of enumerable languages can be enumerated by a universal language that is one of its elements. We say that the enumerable languages are reflexive. In this paper we investi...

Discrete Time Analysis of Multi-Server Queueing System with Multiple Working Vacations and Reneging of Customers‎

This paper analyzes a discrete-time $Geo/Geo/c$ queueing system with multiple working vacations and reneging in which customers arrive according to a geometric process. As soon as the system gets empty, the servers go to a working vacations all together. The service times during regular busy period, working vacation period and vacation times are assumed to be geometrically distributed. Customer...

nSPARQL : A Navigational Language for RDF 1

Navigational features have been largely recognized as fundamental for graph database query languages. This fact has motivated several authors to propose RDF query languages with navigational capabilities. In this paper, we propose the query language nSPARQL that uses nested regular expressions to navigate RDF data. We study some of the fundamental properties of nSPARQL and nested regular expres...
